August 22, 2024 – In partnership with Fraser Health and BC Housing, we are excited to announce a new supportive housing project located at 11695 Fraser Street, Maple Ridge. The facility is scheduled to open in fall/winter 2024 and will be operated by Coast Mental Health.
This 52-unit modular housing development will provide permanent housing and supports to people who have experienced homelessness in Maple Ridge.
These new homes are designed for supportive housing and include self-contained units, amenity space, and a range of on-site supports. The purpose of supported housing is to ensure that long-term tenancies are achieved through assertive engagement and interventions, tailored to address the individual needs of tenants.
We have also partnered with Fraser Health to offer onsite clinical services, which will include a team of health professionals working on site seven days a week to support residents not already connected to services. Additionally, Coast staff will be on-site 24 hours a day, seven days a week to manage the building and assist residents.
During daytime hours a comprehensive team operates the property. This includes a program manager, mental health workers, peer support, Indigenous navigators and maintenance staff. We have also partnered with other community partners to provide specialized services to tenants.
This property replaces the existing supportive housing on Royal Crescent Avenue, which was established in 2018 as a temporary solution to meet an urgent need for housing in this community. The building structure has reached its useful life and plans to replace it have been in place since 2020. Today, we are proud to share that there is a total of 149 homes to support people in need in Maple Ridge.
Applications for housing have already started with most existing residents from Royal Crescent Avenue scheduled to move to the new location in the fall.
For any future vacancies, residents will be selected through BC Housing’s coordinated access team where community agencies including Coast Mental Health, BC Housing, and Fraser Health, will assess applicants for suitability. Suitability considers vulnerability in the community, neighbourhood considerations, accessibility to services, the housing operator’s experience, and mandates – all in the interest of creating a balanced-mix of residents that will support successful operation and tenancies.
