Homelessness Action Week in Maple Ridge
Maple Ridge, Wednesday, October 16, 2024 – Coast Mental Health and Alouette Addiction Services team up to co-host a community event (Tuesday, October 15 to Friday, October 18) in support of Homelessness Action Week.
“We hope to increase awareness of the social issues that cause poverty and homelessness, but also highlight the need for communities to establish services like the Community Resource HUB for people who have basic living requirements. The HUB provides people in need with access to warm meals, clean clothes, showers, and hygiene products,” says Jason Payne, Director of Community Services at Coast Mental Health.
Roberto the Chihuahua visited LaundroMutt dog groomer to get his nails clipped. One of the many local services supporting Homelessness Action Week at the Community Resource HUB in Maple Ridge.
The HUB is a frontline response to connect people with community agencies where they can find housing supports, healthcare referrals, including access to detox treatment and recovery services, income assistance, haircuts, tax returns, and much more.
There are still many communities across British Columbia that lack these essential services to support people who are unhoused and seek immediate assistance.
Today, we use our voices to amplify what is possible when community builders share their expertise and resources for a common cause.
Visitors to the Community Resource HUB can expect entertainment, food trucks, and local services between 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. each day this week. The HUB is located at Ridge Church 22155 Lougheed Hwy, Maple Ridge.
We are extremely grateful for the following businesses and community organizations that are supporting this event:
Katzie First Nations, Fraser River Indigenous Society, Fraser Health Integrated Homelessness Action Response Team, Alouette Addiction Services, Salvation Army, Ridge Church, Bella Nonna’s Deli and Bakery, BeaverTails, Hear Canada, and LaundroMutt.
Also, we thank Alouette Addiction Services and the many community services and volunteers in Maple Ridge who established the HUB services and championed and operated the HUB program for the last two years. As the new operator as of October 1, 2024, Coast Mental Health looks forward to continuing these services with many of these organizations.
Finally, we would like to recognize our current program partners for their continued support with the Maple Ridge Community Resource HUB: Government of Canada, City of Maple Ridge, Lu’ma Native Housing Society and Ridge Church.
