What are the advantages of planned giving?

Donors have the satisfaction of contributing to the improvement of individual lives, and improving the quality of life in our community. They leave behind a legacy of philanthropic support, and the tax advantages to the donor can be substantial. All of this allows Coast to continue its frontline work, 365 days a year.

How much say does the donor have in determining what his legacy is used for?

As much or as little as the donor wishes. Some donors direct their legacy to specific programs or residences, while some prefer their gift to go to the area of greatest need.

Advice for people who want to donate, or leave a legacy?

There are a variety of options for individuals to leave a legacy gift. A Legacy Gift is one you arrange now to provide support to Coast Mental Health in the future. It may allow you to make a larger financial contribution than would otherwise be possible – and achieve a more profound impact. Bequests and gifts of Life Insurance policies, securities, RRSPs, RIFFs, and real estate  are among the most popular ways to make a Legacy Gift. A donor can talk to his or her financial advisor, or Coast staff member would be happy to answer questions and put you in touch with a planned giving financial specialist for personalized advice.
