
The role of the Human Resources Committee is to oversee the development of an overall human resource strategy and advise the Board of Directors and the Executive Director on specific responses to major human resource issues.
In preparation for the accreditation survey the committee reviewed all Board Human Resource Policies and provided a status update to the Board as there were no changes being recommended. The committee also reviewed and revised its terms of reference and set new goals and objectives for the year based on the strategic plan.

We all at Coast recognize that it is the people that make Coast a healthy workplace which ultimately promotes recovery for the clients of the service. Our work is driven by the relationships we build with our clientele, our partners, our competitors, and our funders. To that end, we strive to be respectful of employee concerns, responsive to their needs and committed to their success. It is very satisfying to know that staff believe in these principles and were acknowledged for their exemplary service to the clients we serve during our recent accreditation survey.
Follow-up is an important role for committees and as such we need to ensure that what we planned to do is delivered. One of the objectives for the committee was to review the progress made against the current Human Resource Plan which was provided to the committee in April 2009. Our review would indicate that much progress was made against the plan. A framework for a new plan for the period of 2008 – 2012 was developed with milestones and key indicators to monitor progress against the plan.
The Committee continues to steward the development of an Executive Limitations Policy and Staff Compensation Policy and is working on finalizing the Chief Executive Officer Evaluation Policy based on our recent experiences with the current procedures.
